Better than Panda Express Orange Chicken Recipe

Hi Friends!

I am so so happy many of you reached out to me asking how I made the yummy orange chicken I had for dinner a few nights ago, and I made a few adjustments to the original recipe to make it much healthier and it came out AMAZING! So I wanted to post it all up here for you to try for yourself!

RECIPE

4  raw chicken breast

2 eggs

1 c flour

1 c cornstarch

1 tsp ground salt and pepper

avocado oil

2 TBS finely chopped fresh garlic

2 TBS fresh ginger (I keep these frozen ginger cubes from Trader Joe's in my freezer, super easy way to keep ginger in the house)

1 TSP chili flakes (or crushed red pepper)

3 chopped green onions - including white part

1/2 c rice vinegar

1/2 c soy sauce

1 Zest of an orange

1 juice of an orange

2/3 c soft brown sugar

INSTRUCTIONS

1: Cut the raw chicken into bite size pieces. Put enough avocado oil in the pan to cover the pieces about 1/2 way, let it heat up.

2: Crack the 2 eggs into a bowl and beat until mixed.

3: Make the dry mix: 1 c flour, 1 c cornstarch, 1 tsp ground salt and pepper

- Get chicken pieces, dip in the egg, then the dry mix. Make sure all pieces of chicken are completely covered in dry mix. Once completed, put in the pan to fry the chicken with oil, about 3-4 minutes and then flip.

- once the chicken is golden brown put it aside in a bowl lined with paper towel to remove excess oil.

- In the same pan (leave excess avocado oil in the pan, adds good flavor to the sauce) ADD: garlic, ginger, chili flakes, green onions and SAUTEE for about 1 minute on med/high heat, then

ADD: soy sauce, rice vinegar, zest of an orange, juice of an orange(add this to taste, the whole orange gives it a strong flavor, add less if you want a more mild orange taste), and brown sugar. Then add about 2TBS of cornstarch mixed with water to thicken the sauce. (make sure you are stirring constantly and have it on high heat or it wont thicken when you put the cornstarch in).

- LASTLY: Once the sauce is thick, add the chicken, mix and you. will. love. it.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do!

Xoxo, Alison
