5 ways to change up your protein shake

You have that container of protein you’ve been working on for the last month.. It’s still yummy, but you’re kind of tired of the taste. How can you add to the flavor other then the regular milk and protein? When I add ingredients to my food, I’m always thinking of adding value to my body. A lot of people get stuck in the idea of just counting calories but what are you eating and how is it ACTUALLY helping your body?  Food is a natural remedy for most sickness and health issues we have. But we have to think of food as fuel and our source of staying healthy.  These ingredients I try to add at least once a week to enhance my protein shakes. However, keep in mind food does not affect your body the same as taking a Tylenol with instant relief, and usually takes more time to see an outward effect. These ingredients all have numerous health benefits, which is is why I recommend having them in your weekly food regimen. They can easily be incorporated by adding them into your protein shakes, added to other recipes, or taken in pill form.

Cinnamon: great for digestion, anti-diabetic and antioxidant properties, and also YUM added to almost anything. Add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder to your next protein shake.

Ginger: Known to help relieve a list of symptoms including nausea, it also due to its anti-inflammatory properties, is effective to reduce muscle pain from exercise. Add 1 teaspoon of powdered ginger to your next protein shake.

Mint: Aside from being completely refreshing, mint has so many awesome properties, it helps relieve muscle tension, also rids your body of the bacteria that makes your breath smell bad. Add 1 teaspoon or a few fresh leaves to your next protein shake.

Green Superfood Powder: I am not talking about any specific brand ( the one I take is called Amazing Grass green superfood, found at Sprouts and online), but any brand you have will do. These taste… not the best by themselves. BUT – add a banana and a scoop of this with your next protein shake and be shocked at how good it tastes! It may look green.. but it wont taste so green. 😉

Oatmeal and chia seeds: This is a great addition to your shake to add a change up in your flavor as well as adding some antioxidants and fiber to your shake! add a 1 tablespoon of both and try it out.
